Reusable Code Snippet Library
Six production-tested utility snippets — two each in JavaScript, Python and SQL — that solve the small problems every SaaS codebase re-solves badly. Each one is under 60 lines, dependency-free, and written to be pasted into an existing codebase without a framework decision.
What’s in the library
| # | Snippet | Solves |
|---|---|---|
| JS 1 | retry() with exponential backoff and jitter | Flaky upstream APIs and rate limits without hammering them |
| JS 2 | debounce() / throttle() with leading and trailing options | Search-as-you-type, resize handlers, autosave |
| PY 1 | Typed environment config loader | Missing or malformed env vars that fail at startup, not in a request |
| PY 2 | Structured JSON logger with request context | Logs you can actually query, with request id on every line |
| SQL 1 | Deduplicate rows keeping the newest record | Dashboards that show one row per entity, safely |
| SQL 2 | Period-over-period metrics with gap-filled dates | Weekly / monthly reports with no missing periods |
Every snippet ships with
The code, a “when to use this” note, a how-it-works walkthrough, and the gotchas we have hit in production. JavaScript snippets are TypeScript-ready ESM; Python targets 3.10+ and uses only the standard library; SQL is written for PostgreSQL with the one dialect difference called out. The appendix covers adopting the library in a team codebase.
Why these six: they are the utilities that get copy-pasted from Stack Overflow, subtly wrong, into every new service. Getting each one right once — jitter on retries, trailing-edge debounce, fail-fast config, gap-filled date series — removes a class of bugs you otherwise rediscover per project.
